NO REGRETS - 28th FEB
This popular duo gave the line dancers a good night with both new dances and older songs, such as “Riding The Rodeo”, “Always Running Behind” and “Something Happened To Me”.
They are not really my cup of tea, but it was a good evening for most of Fred's audience.

WEST VIRGINIA - 21st FEB
It was a shame the snow kept a lot of people away this week as West Virginia were at their best.
They always give a polished performance and told some new funny jokes !
Some songs they did were “Take That Smile Off Your Face”, “The Breeze” and “The Cowboy Rides Away”.
Sue
LASS VEGAS - 14th FEB
It was lovely to have Nadine Somers back at Fred's - I for one have really missed her.
She was back with Rob who did go on to play with Vegas - hence together as a duo, they are aptly named Lass Vegas .
I think Nadine has a lovely voice and a stage presence second to none. Together, with Rob always at his best with Nadine, they gave us a great evening. I loved their comedy routine too.
Some songs they sang were “Redneck Woman”, “Strawberry Wine” and “Cowboy's Sweetheart”.
I hope we have them back again soon.
Sue
LIVE WIRE - 7TH FEB
Fred's place was buzzing this week with the return visit of this young duo from Ramsgate.
From the first “up to date” line dance to the oldies, Ainsley and Debbie entertained every age group. They have only been together for two years but gel perfectly.
Debbie's two solos “Take It To The Limit” and “I Told You So” showed what a good voice she has.
I hope they are not long returning to Fred's.
If you are going to Minehead next month, LIVE WIRE are on the bill.

CAJUN MOON - 31st JAN 2010
I really enjoyed Fred's this week with Cajun Moon.
They have been here before with a different format but I hope they stick to this line-up. Reminiscent of years ago when we had 4, 5 and 6-piece bands, they came smartly dressed from head to toe in red and black. This 4-piece band played 3 guitars, keyboard and drums. Very professional, great mix of songs - I didn't see the point of the mask at the end though!
Some tracks included “Redneck Girl”, “Little Sister” and “God Bless Texas”
Sue
SALT CREEK - 24th JAN 2010
This six-piece band from Birmingham was originally coming to Fred's to back Georgette Jones, the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Georgette decided to cancel at the last minute and left Salt Creek to hold the fort, which I thought they did very well.
They gave us a mixture of songs and played a few of Tammy Wynette's songs such as
“Stand By Your Man”, “D I V O R C E “ and “Almost Persuaded”.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and I hope Salt Creek return to Fred's.
Sue
BROADCASTER - 10TH JAN 2010
Fred's Place was closed this week due to the snow; we were to have seen Broadcaster from Liverpool, but they contacted Fred
mid-week as they knew they would be unable to get there.
This is very rare for Fred's Place and I look forward to my fix of country music and meeting my country friends next week.
Sue
BLUE RODEO - 3RD JAN 2010
This duo from Liverpool and St Annes managed to arrive at Fred's on a very cold and snowy night; unfortunately the audience did not.
Despite the room being half empty, Blue Rodeo kept us entertained with mainly line-dance songs. Some tracks were “Veronica”,
“Going With The Flow” and “Small Town Saturday Night”.

4-CARD TRICK
I really enjoyed listening to the seemingly effortless “made for country” voice of Glen Rogers tonight. The whole evening flowed with a good mix of old and new country.
The drummer sang some songs and the two guitarists harmonised as well, making it a perfect evening for me.
Some tracks were “Speak With Your Heart”, “Cowboy And A Dancer”, “Border Town” and “Look At Us”.

GARY PERKINS & THE BREEZE 6th DEC `09
Fred's Place was packed tonight when Gary Perkins & The Breeze made their second visit this year.
The dance floor was full and there was a great atmosphere.
We had lots of Gary's self-penned songs this time - some tracks they sang were “The Thunder Rolls”, “Amarillo” and “My Father In Me”.
We never have less than a great night with this popular band.

PLAIN LOCO 29th NOV `09
I haven't seen this duo for years - since they were actually a trio; I thought they were just as good and gave us an enjoyable evening.
The first spot was all line-dance - “Toes” , “Cabo San Lucas”, etc but the last two spots were a good mixture of line-dance and country music.
I especially enjoyed hearing “She Believes In Me” and “When She Cries”.
Sue
WEST VIRGINIA 22ND `09
West Virginia guarantee a good night every time they play at Fred's and tonight was no exception.
It was nice to hear a few ballads like “Citylights”, “The Chair”, “I Can Dream” and “Take That Smile From Your Face”.
Another lovely evening.
Sue
FOOLS GOLD 8TH NOV `09
We had Fools Gold with a difference this week; Debbie was ill so her daughter Melissa came in her place - sweet 15 with a great voice and stage presence already !
She chose to sing “Let Your Mama Go”, “I Can Dream”, “A Helpless Kind Of Reason” and “Don't Tell Me You're Not In Love” amongst others.
She came off the stage twice too to line dance to “Fireman” and “Billy Be Bad”.
Melissa is someone to look out for in the future - no doubt about it.
A lovely evening.

HARRISON COUNTY 1ST NOV `09
This popular duo returned to Fred's this week.
Since their last visit Chris has written a song entitled “Think I'm Falling” which they sang in their last spot.
He told me that a dance has been choreographed by Justin Brown, and he gave Karen, our dance teacher, a dance sheet.
They are very much a line-dance-friendly duo - some tracks they played were “Billy Be Bad”, “Fireman” and “Your Back Yard”.

ARIZONA FLAME 25TH OCT `09
Having not seen this trio from South Shields for a number of years, I cannot believe how much I enjoyed them .
I would describe them as an easy-listening country band and it was nice to hear songs not heard so often like “Take Your Memory With You”, “Mr Man In The Moon”, “The Chair”, and “Little Rock”.
The line dancers were able to dance too so everyone was catered for.
BRANDED COUNTY 18th OCT `09
This was the first visit to Fred's for this trio. I thought they looked good all dressed in black but unfortunately I was not that impressed with the singing.
I referred the last spot which was full of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard songs.
The first two sets had been mainly for the line-dancers and tracks included “Billy Be Bad”, “Smokey Places”. “Ride The River” and the old favourite - “One Step Forward”.
NO REGRETS 4th OCT `09
This duo are regular visitors to Fred's and play mainly for the line-dancers.
Some tracks this time were “Fishing In The Dark”, “How Long” and “I'm Always Running Behind” .
Another enjoyable night !

WRANGLER 27TH SEPT `09
We had another enjoyable evening with this 4-piece band from South Yorkshire. It was so good to see a band with live drums !
A selection of their songs were “On The Road Again”, “Box Car Blues”. “T 4 Texas” and
“I Still Miss Someone”.
We are already looking forward to their return to Fred's
Sue
KALIBRE 20th SEPT `09
Always a class act, Kalibre were on top form at Fred's this week.
They played a lot of new material and Bobby Reid seemed to be enjoying the evening, and I think Bob Dixon did too !
Some tracks covered were “Don't We All Have The Right”, How's The World Treating You” and “I Fall To Pieces” - done as an instrumental.
It was pure country and an enjoyable evening for everyone.
Sue
BROADCASTER 13th SEPT `09
An enjoyable evening at Fred's with “Broadcaster” - a duo from Preston and Gloucester.
Pete, the lead singer, has a good voice and sang both line dance songs and ballads superbly with Graham harmonising well and accompanying him instrumentally. Some songs covered included “No More Cloudy Days”, “Mud On The Tyres”, “Trail Of Tears” and “Just To See You Smile”. The best bit however was saved till the last as they ended with “American Trilogy”.
A great ending to a good night !
Sue
SPUR 6th SEPT `09
This young duo from Somerset are better every time they come to Fred's. They get through loads of material old and new. Some songs tonight were “Digging Up Bones”, “Me Neither”, “Someone Has To Teach You” and “I Love This Bar”.
A great country evening all the way.

RANCHER - 23rd AUGUST `09
This was the 3rd visit to Fred's by this duo.
They were very up to date for the dancers with songs such as “Moonlight Kiss”, “Toes”, and “Cowboy And A Dancer” .
The second set was more traditional country which was nice for the listeners; tracks included “King Of The Road”, “Truck Driving Man” and many more by Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, Buck Owens and Waylon Jennings - something for everyone !
Sue
DILLINGER - 16th AUGUST `09
Another return visit from this popular band from Bradford.
They were at their best with some new songs and old jokes - which we still laughed at !
Some tracks were “Morgan Davis”, “Wings”, and “The Boys And Me”
A brilliant evening !
Sue
C'EST LA VIE - 9TH AUGUST `09
We had “C'est La Vie” here at Fred's this week. They are now a four-piece band and according to Jon J Paul, this is a line-up they intend to keep.
On drums was Lee Guyler (who plays for Gary Perkins' band), on guitar, vocals and harmony were Tony Hornsby and Pete Steel.
Jon J Paul sings lead vocals and also plays guitar, accordion and pedal steel.
This line-up was great and I'm sure they've been booked to return to Fred's soon.
They opened with “The Running Kind” and other tracks included “Bakersfield” and “Tear Stained Letter”.
Sue
LIVEWIRE 2ND AUGUST `09
We had a return visit from this young duo from Ramsgate, Kent.
Ainsley and Debbie sang popular and newer line dance songs. Both have good voices and they were trying to please everyone by including a few traditional country ballads.
They opened with “Toes”, followed by “Go With The Flow”, “Let Your Mama Go” and finished with Rodney Crowell's
“Please Remember Me.”
A good evening again !

NICKI GILLIS BAND 26TH JULY
This band from Australia is currently touring Britain, including appearances at some festivals, and the lead singer Nicki Gillis has a very good voice - the best female country voice I've heard in a long time.
The band was very professional and went down well at Fred's.
Unfortunately I was left feeling a little disappointed with the content which seemed to include too much “pop” music and not enough country. Some of the country tracks covered were “Crazy”, “Walking After Midnight” and “Blue Moon Of Kenutcky”.
Sue

TEXAS TORNADOS 19TH JULY
It was party time at Fred's this week with a rare visit from Texas Tornados, a mostly line-dance trio from the South, made up of Pete Stothard, lead singer, Scott Newstead, keyboards, and Roger McKew, lead guitar.
The room was full of line dancers and regular audience members - and some who were enjoying their first visit to Fred's country night.
Pete has a good voice and definitely keeps up to date with the music and enjoys singing whilst line dancing ! Some tracks were “How Long”, Midnight Kiss”, and “High Classs Lady”.
A great evening !

AMERICAN SPIRIT - 12TH JULY 2009-07-14
We had a return visit to Fred's of this duo from South Shields; David Ellis and David Wilson are mainly a line dance duo and are invited to many line dance festivals.
They began with “Should've Asked Her Faster” and further tracks included “A Cowboy And A Dancer”, “How Long”, “3rd Rock From The moon” and a favourite of mine, “Whisky Lullaby”.
I'm sure this popular duo will be back at Fred's some time.

4-CARD TRICK - 5TH JULY 2009
This 4-piece band from the south made their first appearance at Fred's this week. The lead singer, Glenn Rogers, used to be one half of a duo but went down better as part of the 4-piece. He has a good country voice and it was nice to have the drums in the band.
Some songs covered were “Devil Woman”, “Behind Closed Doors”, “Seminal Wind” finishing with a fine version of “The American Trilogy” - seldom heard outside festivals any more.
Glenn has enjoyed great success as a line dance musician and tended to suggest a suitable line dance for each song and it was commented that this wasn't really necessary and that Fred's is primarily a listening club with the option of line dancing.
